Find or Calculate Mode in Python using mode() – Examples & Explanation

mode() function exists in Standard statistics library of Python Programming Language. The purpose of this function is to calculate the mode of given continuous numeric or nominal data. The given data will always be in the form of sequence or iterator.

This is the only function in statistics which also applies to nominal (non-numeric) data.
Mode is used to locate the central tendency of numeric or nominal data.

Syntax of mode() Function in Python

The syntax of mode() Function in Python is as follows:
statistics.mode(data)

 

Parameters of mode() Function in Python

data – This parameter can be any sequence or iterator (lists, tuples, etc…)

Note: If data is empty, mode() function raise a StatisticsError

 

Return Value of mode() in Python

Return value of mode() is a floating point number or nominal (non-numeric) value depending upon given data in parameter after calculating mode of given data in iterator (lists, tuples)
